Abolish the PPA

It was not their professionalism that kept the Philadelphia Parking Authority a permanent fixture on A & E’s reality meter-maid tabloid, Parking Wars. The PPA is not just a thorn in your side when you neglect to pay the meter – parking violations are a legitimate method of revenue collection in the balance – it is that the predatory enforcement, along with taxi licensing and other income sources, yields millions and millions that should be spent on municipal improvement, but are instead diverted by the Authority to its own operations.

Aptly referred to as “cockroaches of the bureaucracy,”  the PPA ought to be audited for its assets and liquidated in favor of a publicly-controlled enforcement entity, with funds immediately invested into Philadelphia schools to the exclusion of all else until such time as the city’s educational system is independently solvent.
